Place mats.

I am lately addicted to make place mats as it is the same for me to make a small quilt.

Made these with leftover of the deep ocean quilt. I think it worked great :)

And I have finally done the quilt that I wrote in a previous post. It was just FUN to do quilting, I was like dancing! :D It is always exercising to build up muscles on my arms though.

Here are the result!

I am satisfied with the result. The size of quilt is approximately 73x102, it is considered as twin size when referred to bedspread size, but double size when referred to US commercial size.

Cherry blossoms from Japan

My friend who lives in Japan has just sent me some cherry blossoms and field mustard's pictures. I saw a little Sakura (cherry blossom) tree blooming in my area this afternoon. We have a cherry blossom festival held by Japanese - American society in DC next week, hope we will have the best time for Sakura next week.

I have not seen field mustard (rape) in my area yet, now so many daffodil are blooming here. Springy!! makes me happy.

On April 10th, I will have my first volunteer experience for selling foods with the society in the festival! It would be a great fun, really excited to do something new.

Spaghetti and Quilts

Cooked spaghetti for my lunch today thinking it is very like a quilt.

I love spaghetti.
It is just very convenient and easy to make.
Throw anything you want with olive oil and garlic in it.
I love to add dried pieces of red pepper to make it a little spicy.
Today, I put left over of frozen vegetable I had in the freezer.

You can "Throw anything you want" in a quilt,
and it will work for a great quilt!

Fabric labels.

I was looking for how I can make nice looking fabric labels for my items since USA government published a new law - CPSC - last year. Along this new law, all items for children have to be examined by third party except for items made with natural materials. We have to put a label on the item described about it. The label need to show where it was made by who with what materials and even the DATE when it was produced :(

DATE! Many of hand crafters cried because of it as some etsy sellers decided to close the shop. Because date problem, we cannot prepare the label in advance. I used to use piece of letter sized printable fabric, but it doesn't look nice. I tried stamps with permanent ink, hand writing with permanent ink pen as well.

A few days ago, I received a news letter from Sew-Whats-New.com!
'How to make your own fabric labels'

I tried this method yesterday! and here is the result.

And it was sewed on the back of my quilt.

I washed the label several times, ink stays for a while, cannot be forever, but I believe this method works!! The letter on my label could be larger and better to set color deeper and bold fonts.

Old quilt pieces.

At the quilting group meeting this past Monday, Priscilla gave me this bunch of pieces which are from old antique (looks like) quilt.

They are gorgeous, but cannot get an idea what I want to make with those.

A Christmas ornament?
A tote bag or a pouch using these for applique?

Don't blame me for such poor ideas coming up (>_<)!!

By the way, Priscilla who gave me those beautiful pieces is a great famous artist.
This is an e-mail from my dear friend Donna :

"Did you know that Priscilla's jacket won Honorable Mention at the MAQF in Hampton?!!!
Also, her piece in "Meet the Artist: SAQA 20th Anniversary Trunk Show" has been chosen to be one of the 55 pieces archived in the permanent collection of the International Quilt Study Center at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. It will be available to researchers and students as a record of the art quilt in 2009."

Priscilla Creations

I am standing far away from a contest or a show though, I do understand she achieved great things. She is one of a great artist in our group!

Congratulations :)
