I was very moved tonight, but I don't know what I am supposed to say.
It's been more than an year since I started to go to the Old Man's club - Ham radio - with R. I am not interested in ham radio at all, but like to see "pretty" old men. I mean, there is not any difference between quilting ladies and ham gentlemen in term of enjoying what they like to do like a kid. I see many commonalities between a quilting group and a ham group. I anyway enjoy seeing people who are having fun.
This is R's second year to serve refreshment to the group. Since R wanted to try to achieve his role as perfect as he can, I started to help him. Well, 99% of the members are men, what do you expect for the refreshment? I don't do much about it because R is in charge of it, and he is pretty good about serving (helping) people, also I don't want to be beyond my role - R's friend -.
Since the members recognize that I help R for refreshment, they have been trying to give me a credit. But I am not a member of the group; I am not interested in ham radio; I help R for refreshment because I feel guilty of attending the meetings without paying annual fee. I have gotten cash a few times thanks to them who paid lottery for me; and they put my name - they don't know my name so it is as "R's friend" - in the news letters.
Tonight, the president asked R about how they could approach me wondering why I don't want to be recognized. The word from him that very moved me is "She is one of us."
