New Year 2007

The New Year is coming! I miss Japanese celebration of New Year. I think Christmas is most important celebration in the USA, but New year celebration is most biggest celebration in Japan. It's like Thanksgiving + Christmas. We don't exchange gifts though, children get very special allowance called "Otoshidama" from adult relatives or adult friends.

My husband and I will go shopping for New Year items tomorrow, and celebrate for the new year. We will be a drunk at home (ha-ha), and dancing, chatting, and greet each other for continues happy life for 2007.

I do this greeting to my mother every year even on the phone. I make a call to my mother around 11:45pm on 31st (new year eve) and greet her when we meet the new year.
A years ago when I lived separated from her in Japan, there was one time she didn't pick up the phone from me. This is traditional for us, I thought she might be sick and couldn't pick up the phone. She should know I make a call on the time. I wor…

My Christmas day.

Today is the Christmas. I am not a christian, I don't celebrate Christmas. My husband and I don't have any religion. But I love to see holidays season, people look so fun, love to think about gifts to give my friends. I hate to go shopping after Thanksgiving, especially to Wal-mart though. It's even difficult to find a parking place. Oh, exculdes "Black Friday". HA-HA-HA-HA. I love to go to Jo-Ann fabric store on that day!

I mentioned we don't celebrate Christmas. So we don't exchange Christmas present. I am sad a little about this. Tomorrow is our 3rd anniversary day, but we can't go to even restaurant since my husband is not feeling well after the surgery. I hope he will get better by our birthday! (Jan.7) please!

I had a big fortune yesterday. The second Monster Quilt was sold yesterday!! I felt like the lady who purchsaed the quilt brought me a Christmas present. The quilt is so expensive for me, I would not be able to afford this price if I don'…

My beautiful girl.

Here is my beautiful girl, RingRing. I succeeded to take good pictures of her cute and beautiful face! I thought I have to show them off to everybody. I believe she is truly a beautiful lady if she was a human. She is very positive to alive. I often think about her as my friend told me, "Animal never think to give up their life. They accept all of their condition positively." I think that's very true.
She is paralyzed below the waist by a car accident. My husband has been trying to make the best wheel chair for her, keeps modefiying.

When she is in the wheel chair, she moves like a normal rabbit. She chases after her brother Rusty, shakes her head happily trying to jump. Unfortunately, she cannot junp, to hop, but looks like moving freely in limitation, she controls the wheel chair very well.

Since my husband got a surgery on Dec. 12th, he has been in the bed all the time. I think RingRing is waiting for wearing more comfortable wheel chair. We hope he gets better very soon…

I made a Furoshiki yesterday.

Furoshiki is a piece of big fabric -- wrapping cloth --, we use it as a bag, as wrapping paper.

Furoshiki is very convenient to use. I don't have to think if a thing that I am going to wrap fits or not like a bag, and I can carry it conpactly in my bag. When I need extra bag after unexpected shopping, I just take it out from my bag, and use it like a bag.

This Furoshiki is big, 60"-69" in size. Furoshiki size is vary according to what you wrap. My mother even use it to wrap bedding to store.

General Furoshiki that taking with you is less than a yard square and material(most of them are polyester) is very thin, to let it store in a bag, and polyester doesn't make wrinkle easily.

The Furoshiki I made is actually for quilts in order to bring to the quilt club for show and tell, made with cotton 100% fabrics.
More than one and half year ago, my friend sent me Yukata fabric from Japan. I have been thinking what I could make with them, and finally…

Christmas Party

The last Sunday, I went to Christmas party which my husband's company provided. My husband was walking ahead of me in the party room in the picture.

The last year's party was so great as it's like a movie. A lot of fruits, delicious appetizers, beverages, nice foods! The party was at the president's house. But... this year's one...... was ....

The party place was in an event room of Golf course. We were given 2 tickets for drink, the main foods (buffet) were just 5 kinds : pea, mash potato, salmon, chicken, roast beef, which were so greasy. My husband and I don't eat meat. So, we ate a lot of salmon, mash potato, and pea.

Anyway, it was free. Free is great :-)

The quilt for my friend.

I completed the quilt for my friend which I was working on, the last weekend. I have just sent it out yesterday. I hope she will like it.

I was going to make a blue quilt for her before I started to make this. I can never expect what happen next during I have been collecting fabrics for it. The color combination is often changed depends on collected fabrics, this procedure is fun indeed. I have a lot of stock of fabrics in my sewing room. But still I cannot stop to buy new fabrics, and I believe this is very common among people who makes quilts. Even if you don't use the fabric soon, I am sure the time to use the fabric will come. I just don't know when it is. I have heard from many quilters, "I finally used the fabric which I bought 10 years ago!" Depends on what quilt you are going to make.

I wanted to describe Japanese taste with western fabrics. Do you feel something Japanese taste from this quilt??

The size of this quilt is almost twin, cotton 100% batting, machine…

Making Drapes

I started to make drapes for the window-door which is located near by the rabbit cage. I take care of 7 rabbits now. My husband put together 2 big cages for his rabbits long time ago. One is in the basement, and one (4 stories) is in the family room. When he had only 2 rabbits, they used to use the basement cage as a bed room, and the family room one is used as play-land in daytime. The family room one is near by the window-door in order to get them sunshine, but it makes them to be cold in night time, even we cover the cage with blankets.

My husband and I went to Wal-mart to buy thick drapes, but they are so expensive and we didn't see any enough thick one as we expected. Therefore, I thought I could make "quilt drapes". I completed one of them, and maybe I need to modified it a little, then I will make other one. I hope this drapes keep my rabbits warm.

Flannel Quilt

I have a lot of flannel fabric that I bought on the Black Friday of the LAST year. I haven't made a quilt with flannel, but I anyway thought I would try and I bought them. I finally started to think that I would make it.

The flannel fabric I chose for backing has dark blue. I thought I need to prewash it a few times to prevent color transfer to other fabric before I start to make a quilt, and I did it. Now... the fabric has got a lot of fuzzballs, and it doesn't look new!! I was so shocked.... but anyway I am going to make a quilt with it for my experience.

The baby shower that I was invited was very fun! I have been trying to make a baby with my husband for a long time, but a baby doesn't come down from the sky yet. My friend who is going to have a baby girl let me touch her big stomach praying for me that I can get pregnant very soon :-) She liked the quilt which I gifted her, and other people seemed to like it as they asked me to make a quilt for them with yellow and gree…

A quilt for baby shower

I wasn't recognizing how long I was away from my Blog. I hope someone still looking at my Blog.

I was busy and upset since my dearest rabbit became sick, and I didn't have a passion to do somthing after his death. Now I am kind of going back to my usual life slowly thanks to my friends.

I made a quilt for my friend's baby girl who will be born the beginning of November. I thank her for making me feel that I want to make a quilt for her. After I completed the quilt, I got a passion for making another quilts, and finishing some of uncompleted quilts which I was working on before.

Time is passing everyday without my Charlie (the died rabbit). I didn't know there is such a deep grief. He passed away beginning of this August, I often have a dream of him, and he always die or I keep looking for him, find him already died in the dream. I often think how much stress he had in his life and can't stop to sob. He was a great rabbit who brought me a lot of benefits of life. We c…

Get-well Quilt

My friend's mother got a breast cancer. My friend is like my mother and my older sister.... I love her. She is respectable person.

I have met her mother when she visited my friend from Florida. Her mother is so frank, loves animals and working for her vegetable garden. I was given some tomatoes by her when she was in Virginia, they were sweet as I can believe that tomatoes were made as a fruit.

After her mother came back to Florida, she went to see a doctor, and found the breast cancer. She needed to get surgery immidiately. My friend went to Florida to take care of her, have been staying more than 3 weeks.

I can do nothing for her, but praying, and thought I can make a quilt. I made this quilt imaging her mother is working for her vegetable garden. I wanted send this quilt during my friend is in Florida, so I really worked so hard! ha-ha.

The last Saturday, my friend called me from Florida to let me know she got the quilt. Also her mother talked me on the phone in spite of she has pn…

Since my oldest rabbit (he is 10 years old now) got arthritis in his arms, I need to get him exercize more. When I took him to the vet, the veterinarian gave me more medicine for it, but she gave me a medicine for settling down a stomach at the same time. It means, the medicine for arthritis is enough strong for my rabbit as it will bother his stomach.
I remember my mother started to exercize harder since she got arthritis, and my husband said there is no way to stop arthritis. All animals get it when we get old. How sad to see my family is getting old... I will also have it in future, I'm afraid to become old.

Since I started to get my rabbits excersize outside (in my front yard), I started to crochet watching them. My old rabbits don't move so hard, they just dig the ground and move around a little bit. But to dig the ground is important for them to let arms move. When I see them doing it, I feel them "Do more!".

For now, I could completed 3 of scarves using the time…
